Make it step by step
- Step 01
Arrange the samples on a table. Sketch their shapes; do not collect protected geological material.
- Step 02
Brush away soil. Look for cracks, flaky layers and sharp edges, and separate unsuitable pieces.
- Step 03
Set each on a level surface and nudge gently. Compare which shapes roll or wobble.
- Step 04
Match flat stones to cool supports and rounded stones to padded groundsheet weights. Record limitations.
Check before use
You can identify abrasive edges and unstable bases rather than choosing by colour.
Limits of this project
Appearance and dryness do not prove heat safety. Do not test by heating rocks or dropping hot rocks into water.
Take down and restore
Pack out the samples; do not create cairns in natural areas.
All lashings and racks here are for light objects, never people, climbing or rescue.
