Make it step by step

  1. Step 01

Cut and round the strip. Mark three lengthwise holes A, B and C with adequate spacing and material around their edges.

  2. Step 02

Clamp before drilling holes slightly larger than the cord. Sand both mouths so they cannot cut the line.

  3. Step 03

Take the tarp end up through A, down through B, around the anchor and back up through C. Tie a stopper larger than C; A–B is the sliding section.

  4. Step 04

Slide only while slack, then let the strip tilt and grip. Repeat gentle pulls, including with damp cord. Use a manufactured adjuster if it slips.

Check before use

No cracks between holes, the stopper cannot pass through and the tilted strip holds a gentle test pull.

Limits of this project

Friction depends on wood, holes and cord. No load rating; never use for hammocks or strong winds.

Take down and restore

Release tension before adjustment, remove cord, dry and retire chipped parts.

Practise in an area where building activities are permitted. Bring materials or obtain permission to collect them. Do not cut living trees or dig tent trenches. Take projects apart afterwards.
All lashings and racks here are for light objects, never people, climbing or rescue.
