Make it step by step
- Step 01
Use prepared bamboo of a known species, without mould. Select strips of similar thickness; never split bamboo with a knife in your lap.
- Step 02
Cut equal lengths. Round and sand every edge, especially the tips that contact objects.
- Step 03
Place the spacer between the handle ends and bind securely. Leave the opposite tips free to open and squeeze together.
- Step 04
Try picking up crumpled paper or dry leaves. If squeezing takes excessive force or a strip splits, replace the strips.
Check before use
Tips meet, no splinters detach and the spacer stays in place.
Limits of this project
Not for embers, hot items or automatically for food. Unknown or mouldy wood is unsuitable for food contact.
Take down and restore
Dry and pack out the tool; retire split pieces.
All lashings and racks here are for light objects, never people, climbing or rescue.
