Make it step by step
- Step 01
Choose long clean fibres without mould or sharp debris. Divide into two similar bundles. Do not strip tree bark or use unidentified vines.
- Step 02
Secure the joined ends. Twist one bundle clockwise while looking from the free end towards the anchor.
- Step 03
Twist the second bundle the same way, then wrap the bundles together in the opposite direction. Work in short sections under even tension.
- Step 04
Overlap new fibres generously and stagger the two bundles' joins. Tie the end and test with a gentle pull over a table.
Check before use
The cord does not immediately unwind and overlaps survive a gentle hand pull.
Limits of this project
Homemade cord has no load rating. Not for people, hammocks, primary shelter support or valuable objects. Wetting can change its behaviour.
Take down and restore
Dry and pack out; never leave loops in the woods.
All lashings and racks here are for light objects, never people, climbing or rescue.
