Make it step by step

  1. Step 01

Align the feet of parallel poles with space for the cord. Start a clove hitch on an outer pole sufficiently below the ends to avoid slipping off.

  2. Step 02

Weave alternately in front of and behind all three poles, travelling back and forth for several passes to form a tidy band.

  3. Step 03

Frap each gap between the poles and finish with a clove hitch on an outside pole. If the joint will not open without force, loosen and reset it.

  4. Step 04

Stand and open into a triangle on level ground. Connect the lower legs to limit spreading, then gently test before hanging anything centrally.

Check before use

The apex does not slide, the legs open without cracking and all feet resist slipping.

Limits of this project

Light objects only: no sitting, climbing or hot cookware over fire.

Take down and restore

Unload and release the foot cord before folding; keep fingers out of the joint.

Practise in an area where building activities are permitted. Bring materials or obtain permission to collect them. Do not cut living trees or dig tent trenches. Take projects apart afterwards.
All lashings and racks here are for light objects, never people, climbing or rescue.
